SPORTS BOATS
Sports Boats are light weight, high performance trailer yachts between 6.5m and 9m in length, with powerful sail plans and generally large asymmetric spinnakers. The Sports Boat fleet at CYCSA consists of numerous designs such as various types of Elliot 780s and Thompson 7s. The waters off North Haven provide excellent conditions for racing Sports Boats with generally fresh breezes and short seas combining to generate exhilarating downwind rides. The facilities at the CYCSA are also ideal for Sports Boats as there is a large hardstand area with double ramp and crane for launching the boats.
Sports Boats are perfect for those sailors who enjoy the adrenalin of skiff sailing combined with the stability of a keelboat. Sports Boats are designed to be simple to transport to regattas as they must be trailer launchable, can not exceed the maximum legal road width when on their trailers and their light weight means that they can be easily towed with a sedan or small four wheel drive. Members of the CYCSA fleet regularly compete in major national regattas having recoded wins in events such as the Bundaberg Championships at Geelong Race Week, Airlie Beach Race Week, Lincoln Race Week and National Championships.
