Practical Sessions
Berthing & Mooring, Navigation techniques, Sailing as a team. Tacking & gybes. All points of sail. Hoisting, lowering and reefing of sails. Yachting Australia, Inshore Certificate Course - 4 days or equivalent
This qualification is quickly becoming the benchmark minimum for yacht charter around the world.
Inshore Skipper Theory - 8 hrs
Terminology, Stability, Seamanship, Mechanical issues, Meteorology, Marine Radio, Safety equipment, Life rafts, Lights shapes & sounds, Planning a passage, Coastal Navigation, Use of GPS, Leadership & managing the boat.
Note: Additional theory time and revision takes place during the practical sessions.
Inshore Skipper Practical - 24 hrs
Three full days of practical sailing to compliment the theory course lincluding an overnight trip staying onboard. A number of combinations will make up the required practical time on board. Safety Courses
Yachting Australia Safety & Sea Survival Course - 2 days
Required for Category 1&2 racing including the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race.
CYCSA Safety Day - 6 hours
This one-day course is relevant to local offshore and shorthanded racing. Man overboard, flares, epirbs, marine radio, lifejackets and rafts, offshore rescues. A worthwhile and 'value for money' day for all active members. More info available by calling reception on 82484222
Marine Academy Specialist Courses
Boating Fridays approx 1.5 hours
Includes a range of specialist and informative topics presented in a social atmosphere. Free entry, just buy a meal and enter a raffle on the night. Topics covered in 2007/08 include Meteorology, Anchorages in SA & True North's Sydney hobart campaign.
Yachting Australia Introduction to Racing 1 ½ days
Learn how to crew on a racing yacht and understand what’s going on. A new course this season that will appeal to intermediate sailors. Dates to be posted for early 2009.
Women’s Courses (YA components to be used)
